Lamoni, IA-The Jacket football team opened at home on Saturday night and knew they had a very tall task in front of them. Graceland was set to face the #3 Missouri Valley Vikings a team they defeated last year in Marshall, Missouri in arguably Gracealnd's best game of the season. Saturday night however, would be a different story. Graceland fell 48-15 to the revenge hungry Vikings and dropped their record on the season now to 0-2 overall and in HAAC play.
Missouri Valley started the night out with a bang scoring on their first play from scrimmage, a 55 yard pass from quarterback Chris White to wide out Javion Jones. The Vikings would never look back.
There were few bright spots in the game for the Jackets who went into the lockerroom trailing 31-0 nothing at halftime. Finally in the fourth quarter however the Jackets were finally able to find paydirt for the first time on the season as Emmanuel Stiverne (Montreal, Ontario) was able to score on a 20 yard end-around. Graceland would score one more time in the fourth as quarterback Zach Stuart (Neosho, MO) found senior captain and wide receiver Tyler Stewart (San Diego, CA) on a 21 yard strike. That rounded out the scoring and finished the game off at 48-15.
Graceland will travel to Olathe, KS this Saturday afternoon for a 1pm kickoff with the #12 MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers. Stay in tuned to the Jacket athletic websites for updates on the 2008 Yellowjacket football team and all of Graceland athletics.
