Lamoni, IA-The women's volleyball team had an early tilt on Saturday morning in the Pizza Shack-GU Invite. Graceland faced Michigan Dearborn in an exciting game that would go 5. The Jackets won 25-27, 25-21, 25-17, 25-27 & 16-14. In game five the Jackets trailed both 13-7 and 14-10 but were able to battle their way back to tie it at 14 and eventually win 16-14.
In their second matchup of the evening Graceland was pitted against in conference opponent Culver Stockton. Graceland really needed a win to get back to .500 on the weekend and more importantly get themselves back on track after a tough Friday of competition. The Jackets would get the win they were looking for over the Wildcats in 4. Graceland won 25-22, 25-21, 16-25 & 25-18.
"Our annual tournament continues to be a watershed event in the NAIA early season," stated Coach McDole about the 2008 Graceland University - Pizza Shack Invitational. "The Finals matched Columbia, MO rated #9 with Lindenwood, MO who at #14 had upset #5 Northwestern IA in semifinal play. The field included eight teams from the recent top 25 poll. We were once again excited to draw this quality of competition to Lamoni. Our Graceland losses both came to poll teams. Ending the event 2-2 and 8-3 over all signals a good Yellowjacket team effort.
Full results of the 2008 Graceland - Pizza Shack invite are posted above. The Jackets don't take much time off as they'll head to Parkville, MO on Monday evening to face the Park University Pirates. The game is slated to begin at 7pm and will be broadcast through the Graceland Athletics website.
