September 6, 2008 | Box Score
Fayette, MO-The Graceland football team was in Fayette, Missouri Saturday evening for the much anticipated season opening game against the Central Methodist Eagles.  This game had more meaning then just the usual season opener as the Jackets were set to face new Central Methodist Head Coach Alan Dykens.  Dykens spent the last five seasons as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for Graceland football.  On a night where offense was at a minimum, Dykens and his Eagles would have the final say as Central Methodist defeated the Jackets 20-3.

The scoring got started in first quarter by the Eagles as they scored on a 9 play 74 yard drive capped off by a two yard touchdown run from running back Justin Gerald.  The Jackets would come back down the field and answer with their only score of the contest, a 35 yard field goal from newcomer Luis Villagomez.  CMU would score once more in the first half as quarterback Brock Brockmeier found Seth Bauman in the end zone for a 14 yard strike.  The PAT was blocked and the Eagles would take a 13-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half brought rain and slowed the game down considerably.  Neither team was able to generate much offense in the wet conditions until the Eagles capped the night off with a 37 yard run by CMU running back Rashad Lee with .55 seconds remaining in the game.  That ended the scoring for both teams leaving the final at 20-3.  Full box score will be posted shortly.

Graceland will look to work things out this week in practice as they'll prepare for their home opener next weekend.  The Jackets will be facing the consensus preseason HAAC #1 team and #4 ranked nationally Missouri Valley Vikings.  The Vikings will be looking to avenge the loss they received last season at the hands of the Jackets when they were ranked #3 respectively.  Kickoff is set for 6pm at Huntsman Field in the Bruce Jenner Sports Complex.
