Des Moines-Participating in the Grandview College tourney this weekend, the Lady Jacket soccer team was set to kick off the season Friday afternoon. Entering today's game Graceland returned much of their team from last season, but did have a few question marks most notably who was going to fill the goalie position vacated by injured all-american Alex Tomascin. Graceland found their answer. Junior goalie Leslie Danner shined in the shutout of Trinity International as the Jackets won with their defense 1-0.
Danner recorded 2 saves on the afternoon and freshman sensation Karina Vega scored her first career goal for the Jackets in the victory. "It was a great way for us to begin the season," stated Coach Wagenaar following Friday's opener. "It really solidifies that we are deserving of our preseason ranking. We looked solid today and you can just hope to continue building from a win like this," concluded Wagenaar.
Graceland is back in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30 tilt against Judson College on the campus of Grandview College. Tomorrows game will be webcast through Stretch Internet.
