Lamoni, IA-The Graceland University men's soccer team begins preseason with an ranked 8th nationally. The Jackets are coming off a tremendous 2007 season with a 17-2-2 record and three consecutive trips to the NAIA national tournament. Coach Angel Monroy and his Jackets look to continue this tradition, "We are ahead of our preseason schedule and our returnees and recruits are in their best shape ever," stated Monroy. The team has its first scrimmage that will take place this weekend against Western Illinois.
The Jackets return goalie Carlos Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia), defender Ruben Ruelas (Matamoras, Mexico), and forward Edson Edwards (Ottawa, Ontario) who look to step up to the challenge of being ranked nationally. Graceland will also look to their top recruits to make an immediate impact. The Jackets begin their season with a trip to California where they will face defending National Champions and nationally ranked #1 Azusa Pacific.
