April 19, 2008 The men's and women's tennis teams both completed their stellar conference seasons on Saturday as each snagged the conference tourney championship. The tournament, played in Kansas City, showcased both of Graceland's experienced teams in the finals on Saturday afternoon. First, the men faced off against a tough Lindenwood team who they took care of in easy fashion in the championship winning 5-0. Immediately following, the women clinched their HAAC tourney championship in a tough match vs. William Jewell. Graceland, down their number two player Jessica Labarte (Barcelona, Venezuela) were still able to stave off a tough Cardinal team for the championship 5-4.
"I'm extremely proud of both of our teams," said Coach Hampton following the championship sweep. "We have fought to improve all year and our hard work is really showing. Both teams will now prepare for the Region V Championships next week where we wil look to qualify for the National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama in May," Coach Hampton concluded.
