Marshall, MO- Graceland opened up conference baseball play on Tuesday afternoon in Marshall, MO.  They were hoping for a better outcome.  Graceland dropped a double header to Mo Valley losing game 1, 6-1 and game 2, 11-7.

The Jacket bats were cold in game one as they could only muster up one run on three hits.  The lone tally in game one came on a solo home run by junior Jared Whitten (McAlester, OK) in the bottom of the fifth inning.  In game two, the bats got hot, but the pitching struggled to hold down the Vikings.   Graceland hit six home runs (five solo) in game two, Sean Smith (St. Mary's, IA) recording three of them, but even with the six home runs the Jackets were only able to score seven runs.  Graceland led 6-1 heading into the fifth inning but allowed Mo. Valley to score seven runs in the top half, and the Jackets tried to play catch up the rest of the way.  The Vikings added three more in the top of the seventh, Graceland tallied one in the bottom of the seventh and the game ended at 11-7.

The Jackets next play Saturday (currently scheduled for home) in a conference double header against the Evangel Crusaders at 1:00.
