Aberdeen, SD- The Yellowjackets finished up their second day of the Northern State Tournament Saturday evening as they faced their second NCAA division II opponent in as many days. Graceland went toe-to-toe with highly regarded Minnesota State University falling late 81-72.
The Jackets trailed by only two at halftime and continued to battle hard through out the remainder of the game falling in the waning minutes. Graceland was paced by freshman Mike Malat and sophomore Aundrae Williams. Malat (Shiloh, IL) finished the game with 19 points and 5 assists and was again the Jackets leading scorer, and Williams (Florissant, MO) finished with 15 points and 5 boards. .
"Overall, I’m pleased with the effort for the entire weekend,” Coach Quinn said from Aberdeen. “The exposure to great competition will only help us in league play. We came out of this gaining some respect from the teams in the tourney. We just need to find a way to win. From coaches all the way down to players, to turn this program around we have to learn to win. Being in close games and figuring out how to come out on top is the only way that's going to happen,” Coach Quinn concluded with.
The Jackets will now fly south to Daytona Beach, Florida as they’ll participate in the Daytona Mitsubishi Shootout next Friday and Saturday. Graceland will face Embry Riddle at 8:00 Friday evening.
