November 16, 2007 | Box ScoreOlathe, KS- The defending national champions fell in defeat Friday afternoon 4-2 to Concordia University of Irvine, CA. Graceland struggled defensively all afternoon in a game that was heavily impacted by a strong southerly wind. The Jacket defense had been a strong point all year, but has struggled of late allowing seven goals in their last three contests. Concordia got on the board first as sophomore Jon Fahey hit the game’s first netter and his first of three in the 39th minute. The Region V Player of the Year, Graceland junior midfielder Kevin Souter, hit the back of the net tying the count at 1-1 in the 44th minute on a penalty kick. That calmed the Jackets stress level for the time being. It would however, be short lived. Following the intermission, Mike Mirzadeh hit from 30 yards out on a right-footed volley to give Concordia a 2-1 lead, one the Eagles would never relinquish. Concordia, having the wind at their back and a 2-1 lead, left the Jackets with their backs’ against the wall. Concordia would score twice more in the second half as Jon Fahey added goals No. 2 and No. 3 in the game less than five minutes apart (82nd and 87th minutes). Graceland would score one more time as junior Kevin Souter scored on a free kick in the 88th minute leaving the final score at 4-2. Both Jacket goals were unassisted on the afternoon. Even though the Jackets fell today, an incredible contingent of Graceland fans showed up at the game to support their beloved Jackets and another successful run into the national tourney. Graceland soccer would like to thank all for the continued support. The defending national champion from 2006, Graceland will conclude its campaign with a 17-2-2 mark and their third straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
