On February 6, 2007, Monroy was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach of the Men's Varsity Soccer team. "Angel's promotion is a step in contuining our success in the future," said Head Coach Ivan Joseph. "Anytime you have a team win a national championship and/or earn a national coach of the year award, you have to realize that the entire coaching staff was responsible."

Monroy was on the pitch for Graceland from 1996 thru 2001. In his second season, he helped the Yellowjackets win their first ever Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship. He also ran the 200 and 400 meters for two season on the track team.

A native of Venezuela, Monroy moved to California with his parents Mercedes and Alfonso and sister, Mariana when he was 12. He graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2001 and in 05 he finished his BSN in Nursing. After graduation Monroy played a short stint of professional soccer after being drafted by the Minnesota Thunder of the A-league and later was traded to the Des Moines Menace of the PD league. Following his soccer career, he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Graceland Soccer from 2001 to 2004. After finishing his nursing degree at the independence campus, he returned to the coaching staff in 2006.

"Even though I was away from Lamoni, my heart never left." said Monroy. "I'm excited and look forward to serving in the new role as Associate Head Coach."

Currently, Monroy is working on receiving his masters as a FNP (Family Nurse Practioner) and is a licensed RN in the state of Missouri.  Coach Monroy also holds a class "C" United States Soccer Federation License and is scheduled to test for his "B" license in the summer of '08.
