Brad Matney
Bradley Matney begins his third year as the top assistant varsity men's basketball coach for the Graceland University Yellow Jackets. In his first two years he helped coach the Yellow Jackets at both the Varsity and JV levels and operates as Recruiting Coordinator for the program.
Experience
Brad came to the Yellow Jacket family from the Kansas City high school basketball scene where he helped develop two of the most respected programs in the area. Brad was on staff at Wyandotte High School from 1996 - 2004 helping in all facets of the program from player personal development to being an assistant varsity and JV coach. The program Brad helped build won many conference, districts, and even a state championship in 1998. In 2004, Brad was hired as coach of Southwest Charter High School where he helped in starting a basketball program at a school that did not previously have a team. That team went on to finish with a winning record and the winning tradition continued the following seasons with third and second place finishes in district play. Brad's basketball know how comes from his father, Mark Matney, and his mentor Wayne VanDine, both of whom have been tremendously successful at the High School level winning numerous conference, district, sectional and state titles. They passed that winning tradition and knowledge on to Brad who will use it to help develop the players and program at Graceland University.
Honors
In his eight years at Wyandotte and two years at Southwest, Coach Matney helped develop numerous all state caliber collegiate ball players that went on to play at many top level division one NCAA schools like Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Illinois State. In his two years at Graceland, Coach Matney has helped in coaching all conference performers Mike Malat (07-08), and Jewel Carter (08-09).
Coach Matney played his collegiate ball from 1994-1996 at Penn Valley in Kansas City, Mo. and Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. Coach Matney graduated from Liberty Senior High School in 1994, where he was a first team all conference, first team all district, first team all KC metro, and second team all state member. Coach Matney was also a first team all conference, first team all district, first team all KC Metro, and first team all state as a pitcher in baseball.
Education
Coach Matney earned his degree in Electrical Science and Mechanical Technology from Kansas City Business and Technical College in 2000 and his master Electrical Journeyman certificate from GMI in 2001.
Personal
Bradley Matney was born August 18, 1975 in Mount Ayr, Iowa. His parents are Mark and Sue Matney of Liberty, Mo. Brad is one of three siblings, Brett Matney of Liberty, Mo. and Amanda LaFleur of Liberty, Mo. He and his wife of fourteen years, Marisa, reside in Mount Ayr, IA with their four children Ashley 14, Wyatt 12, Drake 6, Isaac 3 and Georgia 1. Marisa is a homemaker who runs her own successful daycare business out of the couple's home.
