Lamoni, IA-The #3 ranked men’s soccer team was back in action at “The Razz” Saturday night for a conference matchup against rival Lindenwood. “Lindenwood is a game that we circled on the calendar at the beginning of the year,” Coach Monroy said following the contest. “We look forward to playing them because this is such a terrific rivalry between two great teams.” That’s just what Saturday night ended up being, a great game between two great teams. Graceland however, would avenge the conference loss from last year at the hands of the Lions and win 2-0 with dominating defense and timely scoring.
Graceland got on the board in the first half as Matt Iverson found the back of the net. Iverson’s goal was assisted by Matt Klaus. The Jackets would take the 1-0 lead into the half. Graceland would get on the board one more time in the second half on an unassisted goal by Orrin Branker. That would be the final as Graceland would win the match 2-0.
The #3 ranked Jackets now stand at 11-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference.
Coach Joseph had these words following the contest, “Ruben Ruelas continues to impress with his hard work and commitment. Thanks to his leadership Carlos Ortiz (goalie) continues to improve.” Ortiz is really coming into his own as goalie for the Jackets. He recorded his fourth straight shutout tonight for Graceland. Graceland next plays Tuesday at 7:00 pm in Lamoni at "The Razz" against MidAmerica Nazarene.
