Lamoni, IA-The men’s soccer team squared off with the Avila Eagles on Tuesday night at "The Razz" in their third conference game of the year. The Jackets would walk away the victor with an easy 6-1 win. The #3 ranked Jackets run their overall record to 10-0-1 and their conference record stands at 3-0.
The Jackets got goals from sophomore Brian Loving (St. Joseph, MO), sophomore defender Bryce Genova (Lee’s Summit, MO), freshman defender Orrin Branker (Trinidad & Tobago), and freshman Spencer Schrofer (San Clemente, CA) all in the first half. That put the Jackets up with a very comfortable 4-0 halftime lead. With such a comfortable lead at the half, Head Coach Ivan Joseph was able to play much of his bench in the second half resting his starters. In the second half, Avila would score on a free kick due to a penalty inside the box to cut the lead to 4-1. However, Graceland wouldn't end their scoring either. Junior forward Matthew Iverson (Prairie Village, KS) and freshman Zoran Kukic (Ontario, Canada) would score late in the second half. Kukic’s goal would come with one second remaining on the clock.
“It’s great to have another conference win under our belt,” Coach Monroy said after the game. We’ll look forward to Saturday now against Lindenwood where we’ll really try to make a statement in the conference.”
Graceland next plays the Lindenwood Lions this Saturday at “The Razz” at 7:00 pm.
