Schrofer/Tooker Signing (4-13-07)

Lamoni, IA- When Spencer Tooker and Spencer Schrofer hit the field next fall for the Graceland University men’s soccer team they will always have a teammate in which they know pretty well. Teammates at San Clemente High School in San Clemente, California, both Spencers, ironically, have settled on Graceland University as their college destinations and will suit up for the defending NAIA National Champions in the fall.

The casual fan may wonder how these two west coast soccer standouts may have come to know about Graceland University and that can be directly influenced by their high school coach Todd Jaramillo, a former Yellowjacket standout himself. Now a coach at SCHS, Jaramillo helped lead GU to a HAAC championship as well as a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.

Playing on the wing and upfront as a forward at the high school level, Schrofer will be counted on as a midfielder for head coach Ivan Joseph and the Yellowjackets. Tooker (pronounced Tucker) will bring his defensive skills to the Jackets beginning in the fall of 2007 as he was a three-year varsity member of the San Clemente Tritons.

With both players reaching “captain” status with there prep teams, both look to make an impact right away on the highly-successful Graceland program. Many of their future teammates as well as the Yellowjacket coaching staff look forward to their arrival in Lamoni.

“Spencer (Schrofer) has tremendous speed and technical ability. He will help us as we match up against quality opponents,” said Joseph.

“Tooker is the kind of player that gives your team personality and charisma. We look to him to add depth to our varsity defense,” continued Joseph.

With neither player short on accomplishments or accolades, both have excelled on and off the field. Schrofer was named 2nd Team All-County in 2006-2007 after being named honorable mention during his junior campaign. Tooker was named All-League 1st Team during his senior season as well.

Tooker plans to major in Physical Education with a minor in Business Management at Graceland while Schrofer looks to go the route of Engineering while also playing soccer for the Blue and Gold. Spencer Tooker is the son of Randy and Rhonda Tooker while Spencer Schrofer is the son of Stan and Sheri Schrofer.
