As an AmeriCorps Member, you will receive a wealth of benefits. Perhaps the biggest benefit you will experience when you join AmeriCorps is the satisfaction of incorporating service into your life and making a difference in your community and your country.
As an AmeriCorps Youth Launch member, you will receive a living stipend. The amounts are: $12,440 for full-time members (1700 hours), $6220 for half time members (900 hours) and $2500 for quarter time members (450 hours).
Each AmeriCorps member who successfully completes a term of service will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. You can use your award to pay educational expenses at qualified institutions of higher education, for educational trainin or to repay qualified student loans. You have up to seven years after your term of service has ended to claim the award. The award amounts are: $5550 for full-time members (1700 hours), $2775 for half-time members (900 hours) and $1468 for quarter time members (450 hours).
Medical insurance is provided for the full-time members at no cost to the member during service.
As an AmeriCorps member, you will gain valuable experience that translates directly into job experience in your chosen field. You will learn teamwork, communication, responsibility and other essential skills that will help you for the rest of your life. Many find their AmeriCorps year of service provides them with more experience and skills than they would have gotten in a traditional, paying job.
In addition to professional growth, many members find personal growth through the knowledge that they have made a difference in someone else’s life. Life-long friendships are formed, interpersonal skills are learned and community connections are made.
