Membership Benefits

As an AmeriCorps Member, you will receive a wealth of benefits. Perhaps the biggest benefit you will experience when you join AmeriCorps is the satisfaction of incorporating service into your life and making a difference in your community and your country.

Living Stipend

As an AmeriCorps Youth Launch member, you will receive a living stipend. Full-time members (1700 hours) will receive a living allowance of $12,325. Half-time members (900 hours) will receive $6,525. Quarter-time members (450 hours) will receive $3,262, and minimum-time members (300 hours) will receive $2,175.

Educational Assistance

Each AmeriCorps member who successfully completes a term of service will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. The education award can be used to pay educational expenses at qualified institutions of higher education, for educational training, or to repay qualified student loans. You have up to seven years after your term of service has ended to claim the award. The award amounts are: $5,550 for full-time members (1700 hours), $2,775 for half-time members (900 hours), $1,468 for quarter time members (450 hours), and $1,175 for minimum-time members (300 hours).

Medical Insurance

Medical insurance is provided for the full-time members during service at no cost to the member.

Professional/Personal Benefits

As an AmeriCorps member, you will gain valuable experience that translates directly into job experience in your chosen field. You will learn teamwork, communication, responsibility and other essential skills that will help you for the rest of your life. Many find their AmeriCorps year of service provides them with more experience and skills than they would have gotten in a traditional paying job.

In addition to professional growth, many members find personal growth through the knowledge that they have made a difference in someone else’s life. Life-long friendships are formed, interpersonal skills are learned and community connections are made.
