Fast Facts about Graceland

  • Graceland University, founded at Lamoni, Iowa in 1895, is a private, four-year liberal arts school.

     

  • The original name was Graceland College; the name was changed to Graceland University on June 1, 2000. Graceland offered a two-year program until 1960 (and was Iowa's first accredited junior college). The four-year degree program was implemented in 1960.

     

  • Locations: The main campus is located near Interstate 35 in Lamoni, Iowa. A second campus is located at 1401 W. Truman Road, Independence, Missouri. Graceland also offers bachelor degree completion programs at three two-year colleges: Indian Hills Community College, Centerville, Iowa; North Central Missouri College, Trenton, Missour; and at the Metropolitan Community College's Blue River Campus in Independence, Missouri.

     

  • Independence Campus: Graceland offers master and bachelor degrees in nursing and education on the Independence campus. Classes offered through the Community of Christ Seminary, operated by the university, are also available on the Independence campus.

     

  • Online Programs: Graceland offers online degree programs to over 2,500 students in eduction and nursing.

     

  • Degrees: Students may choose from 60 bachelor degree options. Three master's degree programs also are offered - in nursing, education, and religion.

     

  • Enrollment: Graceland's current full-time enrollment is 1,343 on both campuses; there are 690 part-time students. There are approximately 1,080 students on the Lamoni campus. The remainder are enrolled in the Outreach Nursing Program and at the regional campus center sites. The average student/faculty ratio is 15:1.

     

  • Athletic conference: A member of the NAIA, Graceland's men and women athletes compete in 19 varsity sports in the Heart of America Conference.

     

  • SkillPath: More than 500,000 people annually attend SkillPath and CompuMaster seminars provided by the Graceland Center for Professional Development and Lifelong Learning.

     

  • The Center for the Study of the Korean War: The Center is home to the largest archival collection of its kind in the U.S. Located on the campus in Independence, it contains documents, photographs and other materials relating to the Korean War and Korean War period.

     

  • Graceland is sponsored by the Community of Christ.

Section Graphic Right About Us: Ad Building
The Higdon Administration Building, the symbol of Graceland University, was builit in 1897. Over the years it has housed classrooms, a library, science labs, a dining hall and administrative offices. It was renovated in 1998.
