Justin Wallace ’12 calls himself “a dude just trying to make it.” And as he prepares for his graduation this May, the chances for this ‘dude’ look pretty favorable.

Originally coming to Lamoni as a football recruit, Justin spent three seasons with the Jackets before having to walk away due to injuries. Yet, where one passion stopped, others have developed.

For starters, Justin’s involvement with on-campus clubs has given him valuable leadership experience and a passion for international business.

Justin is a current member of the Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Leadership Council and also serves on the Outreach International (OI) Leadership team. Through OI he’s traveled to Nicaragua twice.

His international experiences were furthered in the summer 2011 when Justin secured an internship with St. James Place Management in London, England. For the internship, he spent time traveling, heading-up projects, and creating and updating client stock and bond portfolios.

“London is the business hub of the world and to be a part of that culture for a short time was amazing. I wanted to prove myself to the company and learn as much as possible during my time and I feel that I am now better prepared to enter the professional world because of this experience,” said Justin.

Justin has also developed a passion for serving others through Graceland’s unique Residence Life, or ‘House’ system. He’s been a part of House Council and is the current House President of Orion house.

Next year, he plans to use his Student Life experience to secure a graduate assistantship while completing his Master’s in Business. After attending the Oskkosh Placement Exchange in early March, Justin is in the interview process with a number of universities.

After completing his MBA, Justin has long term goals working internationally, and says he would like to start his own non-profit organization.

“Graceland has given me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. It lets you start small and work your way up to something bigger and better. You reach a certain point to where you can look back and think, ‘Wow, I was a completely different person and now there has been so much positive change,’” said Justin. “I can do so much more than I ever thought I could.”
