Ryanne Miiller '11 Carlson came to Graceland because it was a place she’d heard wonderful things about. A third generation Gracelander, her parents and both sets of her grandparents attended “the Hill”. And while family tradition brought her to Graceland, its community environment, faculty and staff, and leadership opportunities kept her here.
Ryanne was an Elementary Education major with endorsements in Reading and Math. After completing her student teaching in May of 2011, she secured a job and was teaching in a 4th grade classroom at Buckner Elementary (Buckner, MO) by August. Ryanne says that the Graceland Education Department went above and beyond to help her secure a teaching position.
“Searching for a job was definitely not easy. I went to a lot of interviews, but it was actually a Graceland professor that helped me get an interview at the school that I got hired at,” said Ryanne.
While at Graceland, Ryanne won the Area Contribution Award for Education and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Outside of the classroom, Ryanne took part in Campus Life, serving as a COSA Representative, a COSA Board member, and Solah House President.

Ryanne started Varsity Soccer for four years at Graceland. During three of those years, the team clinched a Nationals birth, making it to the Top 8 both her sophomore and junior years. Ryanne played defensive center back for the Jackets and served as a team captain both her junior and senior years on the team.
“Ryanne put everything into her game, and took it personally if a player ever bested her, and that is one of the characteristics of a great player and leader. Ryanne was a tiger on the field, but the most accommodating person you could ever meet off the field,” said Head Women's Soccer Coach Fred Wagenaar.
Ryanne intends to obtain a Master’s degree in Education and to explore coaching options in her school district. Recently marrying another Graceland, she hopes to keep the family Graceland tradition strong.
