Ever since Tyler Jones ‘09 was little, he wanted to come to Graceland.

He jokes that this may be the result of a little parental “brain-washing”; and if this is the case, his parents did their job well. After all, Tyler and his twin brother Cooper ’09 both attended Graceland, and their little sister Hannah ’12 is a recent graduate.

Even further, Tyler met his wife Autumn (Wellington)’10 Jones at Graceland and Cooper met his wife Katy (Brinlee) ’09 Jones at Graceland, making the family’s connection to “the Hill” even stronger.

And whether “brain-washing” played a role or not, Tyler sees Graceland as a path he’d like for his future children.

Tyler, a third-generation Gracelander (on both sides of the family), is currently at Oklahoma State studying Osteopathic Medicine, an approach to medicine that focuses on treating the whole patient as opposed to focusing on specific symptoms. Tyler is contemplating a residency in Internal Medicine, eventually hoping to become a primary care physician.

“The liberal arts aspect of Graceland gave me a wide range of experiences and backgrounds that helped me stand out in the application process.”

Tyler says he felt well prepared for medical school, noting that Graceland’s Division of Science and Mathematics gave him great exposure to different areas of the sciences, while Graceland’s leadership opportunities have helped him develop as a person.

“The liberal arts aspect of Graceland gave me a wide range of experiences and backgrounds that helped me stand out in the application process,” said Tyler.

While attending the university, Tyler was House President of Closson, a Chaplain, a member of the Intramural Board, and participated in SIFE. He majored in Pre-Professional Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Church Leadership.

“One of the crazy things about Tyler was his ability to multi-task and get an incredible amount of work done,” said Division of Science and Math Chair Dr. Daniel Pratt.

“Tyler is very friendly and outgoing. If he were in the area I would probably use him as my own physician.”
