Department of Theatre Mission Statement

The Department of Theatre serves as a unique and vital educational, artistic and cultural center, and resource for the university, community and region. Our mission is to nurture creativity and collaboration while providing practical skills through coursework and production. In addition to preparing students for careers as theatre artists, craftsmen and teachers, the department serves the liberal arts mission of the university with courses that enhance aesthetic appreciation and serve students in various fields of study. Essential to our mission is the production of a broad range of plays and musicals for a diverse audience in an inviting theatrical environment. The theatre major chooses a concentration in performance, directing, theatre design, theatre technology or theatre education.
