Sociology
If you are interested in understanding human behavior and the social influences on us, you may be interested in a degree in Sociology. Sociology provides students with the background necessary for investigating and analyzing social behavior.
The sociology curriculum explores society and social behavior, including culture, social structure, socialization, social institutions and differentiation by race/ethnicity, gender, age and class.
Our students are prepared for employment in a variety of fields as well as for graduate study. Sociology majors interested in a career in law enforcement or in adult or juvenile corrections are offered, as part of and in addition to the basic sociology curriculum, coursework in criminology, the justice system, and the sociological analysis of law, as well as others.
Students wanting an academic background preparing them for a career in social work or human services also find a home in Sociology. Sociology courses covering social problems, the family, the social welfare system and delivery of social services can be supplemented with coursework in related fields.
Other Sociology majors are interested in attending graduate school or conducting research. Our curriculum is an excellent preparation for pursuing these goals.
