Bob Mesle traveled to Bangalore, India, where he made three presentations at the 7th International Whitehead Conference on Process, Religion, and Society (Jan 5-9, 2009). The conference, held at Dharmaram College in Christ University, had about 250 participants from around the world. Bob and a colleague had been invited to present three sessions on Introduction to Whitehead for participants who might be relatively new to process philosophy. About 50 people attended. Later Bob presented a paper on "Brahman and Elliot: The Power of Children as Symbols: Tillich, Whitehead, the Gita, and Sacredness." On the last day of the conference Bob shared in a panel discussion of his new book, Process Relational Philosophy: An Introduction to Alfred North Whitehead. Participants in the discussion included the President of the Japanese Process Society, the Dean of Philosophy of Dharmaram College, the former Dean of Boston University School of Religion, and the founding president of the International Process Network (IPN). During the conference Bob heard papers by speakers from Africa, China, Japan, S. Korea, the U.S., Germany, Belgium, and India, on topics like "Japanese Philosophy of Absolute Nothingness and Process Thought," "Process Thought and African Cosmologies," and "Process Thought and Curriculum Reform in China," and was able to converse with the presenters over meals. Bob also joined working meetings of the Executive Board of the International Process Network (IPN), its publication committee, and the IPN general assembly. Bob has received several emails from people in India following up his presentations with questions about process thought.
