The annual athletic training BBQ banquet was held this spring 2006. The banquet offers the opportunity for the athletic training staff to recognize students for their accomplishments over the past academic year. Students received a variety of awards, including The Most Distinguished Athletic Training Student Award.

Jenna Silvey, a senior from Bon Accord, Alberta, Canada was the recipient of The Most Distinguished Athletic Training Student Award. Each year the award recognizes the senior athletic training student, who over the course of their education, has shown the strongest balance of academic achievement, professionalism, commitment to, and peer leadership in the athletic training major. The Most Distinguished Athletic Training Student Award is sponsored by Team Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. William Jacobson, of Central Iowa Orthopaedics. For her achievement, Silvey was bestowed with a $500 post-graduate scholarship to be used toward expenses for her national certification exam. Jenna has begun her graduate studies where she is pursuing her Master's in Athletic Training at Indiana State University.

Prior to the banquet, athletic training students also vote on peer awards and for the Student Athletic Training Association (SATA) officers.

Peer awards included:

The Most Professional ATS: Jenna Silvey

The Most Improved ATS: Lindsay Campbell

The Observation Student of the Year: Dylan Hogan

2006 SATA officers:

President: Amy Moran

Vice President: Drew Yoder

Treasurer: Lindsay Campbell

Secretary: Melanie Dalpais

Other awards included the students' Funny Awards, which poke fun at silly mishaps during the year. The athletic training major also said goodbye to four seniors, Jenna Silvey, Nav Boparai, Liz Ferrara, and Josh Meyer. This group of seniors will be greatly missed.
