Diversity Scholarship
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students who express a commitment to issues of diversity, social justice, equal opportunity, civil rights and non-discrimination on the basis of (including but not limited to) race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
Amount: $1000.00. The application due December 1, to be awarded the following award year, starting September.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Recipient must be in good academic standing and making satisfactory progress as determined by the university.
- The scholarship is open to all students who have an interest in diversity, social justice, equal opportunity, civil rights and non-discrimination.
- If the student resides in university housing, awarding of this scholarship in addition to all other financial aid shall not exceed the cost of tuition, room and board. If the student does not live in university housing, the maximum financial aid awarded will be up to the cost of tuition.
- Scholarship winners may reapply each year for a maximum of five (5) years.
- Financial need is not a requirement.
Application Process: Applicants must deliver the following to the Social Science Division office no later than March 1:
- A letter of application. This letter must include the applicant’s name and ID number, as well as the name of the scholarship for which the student is applying.
- A two page typed essay. This essay should address the applicant’s interest in issues of diversity, social justice, equal opportunity, civil rights and non-discrimination on the basis of (including but not limited to) race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability. The applicant is encouraged to address any activities, events or organizations in which she/he has participated that reflect her/his interest in these areas. The essay must be submitted in an electronic format. The essay will be identified only by the applicant’s ID number when it is evaluated.
