Student Internships

Tonja Garwood

Oklahoma University, Sports Medicine Department
This winter term I shadowed with 5 different trainers in several different sports. My work was hands on and I got a real feel for the industry. The CAP Center was here to help all along the way. CAP Staff helped me with my resume and internship plan. In the future I would like to become a Sports Medicine Physician.

America's Second Harvest, the National Food Bank
This summer I had a wonderful experience as an intern at America's Second Harvest, the National Food Bank Network in downtown Chicago. This was the internship of my dreams. The CAP Center was here to help all along the way. CAP Staff helped me with my resume, cover letter and practicing for my interview. I am so thankful to the CAP Center for helping me get such a great internship.

Star Duncan

Discovery Publications
For my internship I went to Kansas City, Missouri and worked for Discovery Publications as a graphic design intern. This internship showed me what it was like to work full time in an office, being on time and complete dedication. I really enjoyed working for Discovery Publications and it was lots of fun to see my work actually published.

Megan Chlebina

Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics Inc.
I spent three weeks job shadowing a small group of workers in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. I really enjoyed working in the lab. Everyday I learned something new. From this experience I learned self-confidence on the business level. Before Winter Term, I had no confidence in my abilities to be a competent employee. I now believe that with this schooling I will have the capabilities to handle a career.

Winter Term Career Exploration - Jefferson and Lincoln Elemenatary Schools - Pella, Iowa
My career exploratory teaching experience was the perfect opportunity to use my time during Winter Term. I not only learned by observing the teachers but I learned just as much from the students. There were many new things that I learned about the profession of teaching and in many ways it was what I expected and a few I didn’t. The thing that I learned the most was that preparation is key to teaching success. Preparing often goes much further than just the classroom, work does continue at home. One thing that I didn’t expect was to be so exhausted. It is definitely hard work to keep up with all the students; they have so much energy!  This experience has helped immensely in my decision to become a teacher. I loved it!

Uran Ismaili

Winter Term Career Path Practicum -
I was able to meet and work for Mr. Roderick, Director of a project Financed by the European Union, as an intern. The project is aiming at standardizing and developing the administration of Kosova. This was a very good experience for me to join the meetings with the local administrators and with the UN Administrator and to be able to see how the problems were discussed and solutions were found within this project. In this internship I was able to see a clear and practical way of organizing day-to-day managerial tasks and also to see the practical part of manager decisions and leadership. I had the chance to fulfill some experiential gaps in my knowledge. I also think that this experience has strengthened my dedication toward human resource management as I have found this experience very productive and a lot of fun.

  Jake Davis

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
My internship was at Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. I performed independent research under the supervision of one of the professors in the department, Dr. Munson. I would definitely encourage other students to pursue an internship in the field that they want to enter after college. It helps establish a valuable network contact.Return to Internship Database
