CAP Center
The CAP Center mission is to help students become successful, serious, and self-aware individuals who graduate from Graceland and move on for advanced study and/or productive careers that help them live rewarding lives. The atmosphere of the CAP Center is a friendly, accepting, and personal one, where students feel welcomed and accepted for who they are. Each student is challenged and supported to grow as an individual. Information of a personal nature is kept strictly confidential.
About Us
Since 1989, the CAP Center has been integrated with career, academic, and personal counseling all available at the Center. Academic advising joined career counseling and personal counseling services the following year and adopted the acronym CAP to create the Career, Academic and Personal Counseling Center located in Patroness Hall.
The CAP Center is one of the first contacts a newly accepted student makes with the university. We provide professional advisers for all entering students. During Early Orientation for New Students in the spring, over the summer, and up to the start of fall classes, new students come to the CAP Center to choose their first semester classes. Some advising is also available by phone or email.
As fall classes start, a specific CAP Center staff member is assigned as an adviser that collaborates with Innovative Leadership. Innovative Leadership provides support for new students during their first semester on campus. Students not attending Innovative Leadership are assigned to the advisers at the CAP Center.
At career services share responsibility for consultation, resume development, cover letters. and decision making in the job and internship search.
The total intake model for academic advising combined with integrated services provides a "one-stop shop" for our students and has played a successful part in Graceland's retention efforts.
