Emily Jones Signing (4-25-07)

Emily Jones and Graceland Softball Make Solid Fit

April 25, 2007

Lamoni, IA-
Days after earning a trip to the Heart of America postseason conference tournament, Graceland University head softball coach Don Stopa has announced yet another signing for the future in Emily Jones.

A standout second-base prospect out of Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb-Union-Whitten High School, in Union, Iowa, Jones will provide quickness and athletic ability to the Yellowjacket roster beginning in the fall of 2007.

“Emily is a strong athlete with a great arm and great range that will make her a strong middle infielder,” said Yellowjacket skipper Don Stopa.

With senior Lindsey Campbell set to graduate this spring, open competition for the starting second-base job will be open to a number of players next season including the speedy Jones. Standing at 5’5”, Jones already possesses the defensive ability to play at the collegiate level.

A member of the BCLUW softball team since eighth grade, Jones selected as the team’s most Valuable Defensive Player in 2005 while also awarded the “Most Spirit and Leadership Award” in both the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

While at BCLUW, Jones was a four-year honor roll student as well as her dedication to the Comets softball program under head coach Dave Lee. Not just a standout middle-infielder, Jones also participated in basketball and track during her time in the prep ranks. She was named captain of the Comets basketball squad during the 2006-2007 season.

“I chose Graceland because it was the perfect size for a person like me,” said Jones. “The day I went and visited I really liked my surroundings and how everything was set up. After I was done with the tour of the campus, I knew that this was the place I wanted to be a part of. I look forward to being a student at Graceland as well as being part of the softball team and continuing what I enjoy doing the most,” continued Jones.

Jones plans on pursuing her degree in Athletic Training while at Graceland with a minor in Physical Education.

Emily is the daughter of Jim Jones and Dennis and Stephanie Carson.
